“Waste of money”, “Isn’t a team player” – Lots of Man City fans demand more from 28 y/o ace

Manchester City fans on Twitter are not happy with Riyad Mahrez, after the forward threatened to quit the club over a lack of action in his debut season in Manchester – despite making 42 appearances.

Mahrez signed for a fee of £60m from Leicester back in the summer, but has been an unused substitute in the last three games as he struggles to dislodge Raheem Sterling and Bernardo Silva from the team – both of whom are up for the PFA Player of the Year award, in fairness.

The 28-year-old Algerian international believes that his technical ability should have yielded more than just 13 Premier League starts, although he has failed to deliver in key moments.

Mahrez, the Citizens’ record signing, missed a late penalty at Anfield in the 0-0 draw earlier in the season, a blunder which, had he scored, would have made the title race a lot easier for his teammates right now – he was also ineffective against Tottenham in the 1-0 Champions League quarter-final first leg loss.

As a result of these shortcomings – he was also substituted in the FA Cup against Swansea with City 2-0 down – the Citizens supporters on Twitter feel that he needs to do more to earn a starting place…
