Liverpool survived their most difficult Premier League fixture left on paper this season as they beat Chelsea 2-0 at Anfield on Sunday.

This is the fixture that Jurgen Klopp surely would have been fearing the most given the Blues had an in-form Eden Hazard in their team and with matches against Cardiff City, Huddersfield Town, Newcastle United and Wolverhampton Wanderers to follow afterwards.

Quick-fire second half goals from Sadio Mane and Mo Salah set the hosts on their way to a 2-0 win, and while those two, Virgil van Dijk, Jordan Henderson and Fabinho would have received plenty of plaudits for their displays, it was the man between the sticks who was their under-the-radar hero.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp embraces Alisson Becker after Chelsea win

Alisson Becker may not have had a great deal to do throughout the 90 minutes as a whole, but he kept his concentration and shone when he was needed.

Hazard could easily have levelled things up after Salah’s brilliant strike with two great chances in the space of a few minutes, but the Brazilian made himself big enough so his opponent could only hit the post.

The 26-year-old then saved a point-blank effort from the Belgian, and while some may criticise the poor finishing by the Chelsea man it shouldn’t deflect away from Alisson’s contribution.

His 18th clean sheet of the top flight campaign soon followed and while Van Dijk, Salah and Mane continue to get the press coverage, the stopper’s presence and impact shouldn’t be underestimated.

Klopp certainly knows it, as he showed when he embraced the former Roma star on the pitch after the final whistle.
